The condenser that sits outside your home is built to withstand the elements, so covering is not needed to protect it. Covering can prevent debris from getting inside your unit, but if the unit is accidentally turned on before the cover is removed it can damage your cooling system.
That’s why we recommend leaving it uncovered but getting an annual check-up before turning it on. Our technician will be sure to remove any debris in addition to the regular inspection and cleaning, so you can be confident that your system is giving 100% throughout the summer.
While it might be easy to assume that your new air conditioner won’t need maintenance for a while, you can still benefit from having a professional service your unit before the next heating season.
As part of your yearly maintenance, our service technicians clean out your machine to ensure there is no buildup or debris causing additional wear on your unit. This helps extend it’s lifespan and improve it’s energy efficiency.
The first thing to check is that your vents and registers aren’t being blocked so that the air can properly flow in your home.
If your vents and registers aren’t blocked, it’s possible that a dirty furnace filter is restricting the air flow in your home. Check to see if it needs cleaning or replacing.
If neither of those solves the problem, it’s best to call a professional to come take a look.
Air conditioners last for 17-20 years on average. In order to get the most out of your new air conditioning unit, we highly recommend regular maintenance and service.

There are a variety of factors that indicate that it is a good idea to replace your air conditioner, such as decreased energy efficiency or more frequent breakdowns/repairs.
Repairing your unit may be cheaper in the short run, but advances in air conditioning technology in recent years may mean that you might save more money in the long term by upgrading your unit to a newer, more efficient model.
We recommend an annual servicing before you turn it on in the summer. This lets us make sure everything is working properly before it gets put to work for the year.
There are a variety of reasons why your air conditioner may be giving off a bad smell when it cycles on. The good news is that a majority of these causes are minor and can be fixed with some maintenance.
Give us a call and we can have someone out to your residence to take a look.
Our staff are friendly and professional, and are able to work in any environment. However, to keep things efficient there are a few things you can do before we arrive:
- Ensure there is nothing obstructing the path to your furnace or utility room
- Put pets in carriers or a separate room until the repairs are complete
- Make sure the light in your furnace/utility room is functional
For whole home units (like central air), double check to make sure your thermostat settings aren’t the problem. Make sure the unit is on, the desired temperature is lower than the current temperature, and that the unit is set to cool instead of heat.
For portable or window units, check that the settings on the unit are correct. If they are, try restarting the unit and checking to make sure there is power flowing to the outlet that it is plugged in to.
If the above steps don’t work, give us a call and we will come take a look.
